Art In Transit: Timex x Keith Haring Collaboration
Design, Art Direction
Established by the artist in 1989, the Keith Haring Foundation perpetuates Haring's artistic and philanthropic legacy through the preservation and circulation of his artwork and archives, and by providing grants to children in need and those affected by HIV/AIDS.
At Timex, I was tasked with leading on a collaboration with the foundation in which a collection of our watches feature some of Haring’s most notable doodles. In the 1980s, Haring was known to take unused ad space in the NYC subway stations to quickly sketch his iconic art before moving on to the next. He also loved to draw clocks with the Timex logo, perhaps to remark on how his life revolved around time: running from it, how little he had of it, and how much was left of it.
I worked with and assisted in art directing a photography team to capture the essence of this idea through crisp images and video that highlighted the most interesting and eye-capturing details of each product. After ideating with our in-house motion designer, the footage resulted in a captivating representation of what the collection had to offer, and its homage to Haring. The collection drop made waves across the watch enthusiast space and around social, resulting in a successful selling-out period shortly after.
